Our Route

The trip starts with a drive from International Falls to Wollaston Lake Lodge, SK.  We start paddling on Wollaston Lake and end on Baker Lake, NV, or Chesterfield Inlet on the shores of Hudson Bay, a trip of approximately 1000 miles depending on the end point. The majority of the trip (690 miles) is on the Kazan River from its headwaters at Kasba Lake, NV, to its end at Baker Lake.  The first part of the trip from Wollaston Lake to Kasba Lake is a traditional “paddle/portage” route through Canadian Shield/boreal forest land of lakes and streams with a few large lakes.  The second part of the route on the Kazan River is a true arctic “barrens land” canoe trip, with lots of rapids, four or five larger lakes, and a few portages. The trip can end at Baker Lake if necessary or desirable because of wind delays or predicted poor weather, which would eliminate the 175-mile (5 day) trip to Chesterfield Inlet on Hudson Bay.
